Process

The design process isn’t a linear progression, but a steadily tightening spiral.

Design

Whether refining a new concept or working with a client for a custom commission we approach each project with the same focus. The goal is a singular, simple solution that connects with people in a meaningful way. We aren’t just making furniture, we’re helping our customers tell their story through the objects they surround themselves with.

Build

You are investing in an object to spend the rest of your life with. This coffee table, credenza, or dining room set will be part of your story. It will be part of your children’s story. We take pride in building heirloom quality furniture and the legacy we leave for generations of customers. Everything is made in our shop in southern Minnesota with uncompromising attention to detail. We’re building upon the insights of the design process to create an object where there wasn’t one before. The maker’s responsibility is to do this at the highest level possible.

Ideation

It starts with sketching, brainstorming, and research. The seed of a design is planted during the ideation phase. It can grow into a concept in a few hours, or it may be an idea realized over years of refinement.

Concept Development

At this pivotal stage of the process we use measured drawings, finish samples, and scale models to accurately critique the design. We are walking the fine line between artist and craftsman as we translate our ideas into a tangible, usable thing.

Production

Our pieces are crafted one at a time or in very small production runs using a combination of old world techniques and modern machinery. We do our very best to use local materials and incorporate ethically sourced wood and finish products.
